Throughout his career, Calle Henzel has cultivated an independence and artistic freedom that has allowed him to explore different forms of painting and experimenting with textiles and other media. All of these aspects of Henzel’s oeuvre – bold paintings capturing a youth culture zeitgeist with collage-based images presenting fragile and fluctuating notions of identity, ciphers, corrupted beauty and symbols – does not associate him with any particular artistic movement or school of theory. Instead, these aspects show his continuing search for a way to express what is experienced and perceived in the world around us. The unique characteristics of his pieces lend a contemporary and enduring quality to his work. Calle Henzel’s works are based on explorations and experiments. He prefer to blend the abstract with the figurative, often searching for a constant play between movement and stillness, the sublime and the intense where everything is carefully balanced. The experimental process is something that continues into the actual making or realization of that particular art object. The process when something changes when it shapes and elaborates itself as you continue the making, influences his way of working. Calle Henzel’s work has been represented in numerous group exhibitions, solo exhibitions and public installations worldwide.
